Clear

Privacy policy

Last updated: November 6, 2026 (newsletter: Substack)

Clear is a daily brief on U.S. federal politics. It's built to be read, not to read you.

What we collect

Nothing that identifies you, unless you choose to join the newsletter (below). Clear has no accounts, no sign-in, no advertising, no analytics, and no tracking. We don't use cookies, device identifiers, or location.

Newsletter (optional)

The newsletter goes out once a week, on Sunday. If you sign up, on this website or in the app, we store your email address, where you signed up (website or app), and the date, with our hosting provider, Cloudflare. We use it only to send you Clear's newsletter.

The newsletter is hosted and sent by Substack. We add your email address to Clear's Substack publication, and Substack delivers each issue under its own privacy policy. Like most email services, Substack may record whether an email was opened or a link was clicked. We don't use that to profile anyone, and we never sell or share your email. Paid support is optional and handled on readclear.news/support by our payment processor, Stripe, under its own privacy policy; we never see your card details, and supporting gives no different edition.

Every email has an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing on Substack stops the emails; you can also email us to be removed from both Substack and our signup list.

What stays on your device

The latest edition and any unsent feedback are cached on your device so Clear works offline. Deleting the app deletes them.

Sharing

We don't sell or share data, including newsletter emails. Substack receives newsletter emails only to send the newsletter.

Children

Clear is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date above. If Clear ever adds other features that collect personal information (for example, purchases), we'll say exactly what and why before you use them.
